<>< Club News ><> Sunday, April 10th and a beautiful day for a tournament the Tracker Bass Club held their first event of the 2005 season. The event was held at, Wolf Lake on the Indiana side and has been one of our favorite sites for the past few years. Every time we come to Wolf, we expect great things like, large limits, bigger turnouts and a few large fish coming to the scales, and this day proved to be better than that. As the members arrived and start to launch their boats, other members chip in (Along with the tournament committee), to check live wells, make sure that parking is correct, so we all would be able to fit, and help their fellow members as best as they can. This is what it is all about, the fact that we as a club work as one, makes the difference in the way our tournaments are ran and, how well it works for us. 15 minutes before take off, we have our pre-meeting on the rules of the water. Now the fun part, the drawing of boat positions, which everyone that has fished in a tournament knows, that no one wants to be last and everyone would want to be first. As sun up arrived, 29 boats headed towards their favorite spots to see who will be the first to post a win. At 2:30pm (check in time), 29 teams arrived and to everyone’s surprise, 21 teams were waiting for the weigh in bags to show their catch. Coming to the scales with a five fish limit and a weight of 17.16 lbs. was the team of Smolen and Kometz breaking the old club record by quite a few pounds. Finishing in second, was team, Brown and Brown with five fish weighing 17.01 and was also at the time a club record. and third place was team Drada and Sawyer with five fish weighing 15.86. This team started the whole snow ball effect with a club weight record. These top three teams alone were exciting to see at the scales, let alone seeing big fish honors that went to team, Nelson and Villeglass, this monster bass went 6.72 lbs. and is also, a new club record. This tournament broke several records in our club starting with the big bass, that was actually broken twice at this event, with two six plus pounders being weighed. Total weight was also a new record along with the largest weight for Wolf Lake that any of us has heard of. Another record, total weight was the heaviest that came from 21 teams at a single tournament for the tracker bass club. All I can say is that, if you were not there to see the weigh in, you would not have believed it and, you missed out of one of the best weights and most exciting finish, that any of us has seen that has not been on the television.
